About the Role
As an IoT & Edge Systems Engineer at TalentRoots, you work at the exciting intersection where code meets the physical world. You are responsible for implementing the systems that collect data at the edge and process it using localized AI.
In this consultancy role, you help our clients move from experimental prototypes to reliable, production-ready edge operations. You take ownership of global device fleets, ensuring they are secure, patched, and communicating seamlessly with the cloud.
Key Responsibilities
- Edge Platform Deployment: Build and manage Linux-based edge environments (Ubuntu Core, Yocto, balenaOS) using container orchestration like Docker, K3s, or Azure IoT Edge.
- AI Inference Implementation: Set up and optimize infrastructure to run AI models on hardware such as NVIDIA Jetson, Google Coral, or Intel Movidius using frameworks like TensorFlow Lite or ONNX.
- Automated Device Management: Use Infrastructure-as-Code (Ansible or Terraform) to manage, patch, and monitor fleets of IoT devices at scale, ensuring zero-touch operations.
- Secure Connectivity: Implement Secure-by-Design protocols for device connectivity, including TLS certificates, Device Provisioning Services (DPS), and Zero Trust principles.
- Industrial Data Flow: Configure and maintain resilient ingestion paths using MQTT, Kafka, and OPC-UA to move data from the edge to cloud analytics platforms.
- Collaborative Engineering: Work alongside Cloud and Data Engineers to ensure that edge-collected data is properly integrated into the client’s broader ecosystem.
Your Profile
- 3-6 years of experience in Systems Engineering, IoT, or Linux Administration, ideally within a consultancy or a fast-paced tech environment.
- The Linux Enthusiast: You are highly proficient in Linux (admin/CLI), shell scripting, and hardware-level troubleshooting. You are at home in a terminal.
- Cloud-Native Awareness: You have a solid grasp of Azure IoT Hub, AWS IoT Core, or GCP IoT and understand how they interact with physical gateways.
- Automation-First Mindset: You hate manual updates. You have experience with (or a strong drive to learn) fleet management tools and automated CI/CD for hardware.
- Protocol Knowledge: You understand MQTT, AMQP, and Modbus and know how to secure these flows in diverse network environments.
- Consultancy Spirit: You are a proactive problem-solver who enjoys the variety of working for different clients and can explain technical edge solutions clearly to stakeholders.
- Fluent in Dutch and English, with strong documentation skills.
