About the Role
As a Windows Infrastructure Engineer at TalentRoots, you are the specialist behind the Microsoft-driven heart of our clients. While the cloud is expanding, you know that a high-performing Windows environment, whether on-premise, hosted, or hybrid, remains the backbone of enterprise operations.
In this role, you design, build, and modernize complex Windows environments. You are the expert who ensures that Active Directory is rock-solid, Hyper-V clusters are performing at their peak, and the bridge to Azure is seamless. You go beyond managing servers, building and automating a modern, hybrid Windows infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Hybrid Windows Lifecycle: Deploy and optimize Windows Server (2016-2022) environments. You utilize Azure Arc to manage and govern on-premise servers according to cloud standards.
- Virtualization & Software-Defined Storage: Design and manage high-availability clusters using Microsoft Hyper-V and advanced storage solutions such as Storage Spaces Direct (S2D).
- Identity & Hybrid Governance: Lead the Active Directory architecture, including complex GPO structures and seamless synchronization with Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD).
- Automation-as-Standard: Eliminate manual tasks by implementing PowerShell scripting and modernizing deployments using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) principles.
- Monitoring & Observability: Implement proactive monitoring and alerting to guarantee 24/7 uptime and performance.
- Cross-Discipline Collaboration: Work closely with Cloud Engineers, DevOps teams, and Security specialists to ensure an integrated and secure infrastructure.
- Backup & Resilience: Manage the backup and recovery strategy (e.g., Veeam) specifically tailored for Windows workloads and SQL environments.
Your Profile
- 4-8+ years of experience in Windows System Engineering, preferably in a consultancy or managed services environment.
- Microsoft Stack Mastery: Deep hands-on knowledge of Windows Server, Failover Clustering, and Group Policy Objects.
- Hybrid Mindset: You are at home in the local data center but navigate the Azure Portal and Entra ID with equal ease.
- Modern Toolset (Nice to Have): Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, or SCOM. Knowledge of PowerShell DSC or Bicep modules is a significant plus.
- The Troubleshooter: You approach complex cluster or identity issues with calm, methodical precision. You find the root cause, not just the symptom.
- Consultancy Skills: You can translate technical debt into a clear modernization roadmap for the client.
- Fluent in Dutch and English, with excellent documentation and communication skills.
